HOLLAND

Holland State Park is another campground built on an asphalt parking lot.  But aside from that it is a pretty great place to camp.  For one thing the town has everything you need and it is not far from the state park.  Another thing is it has a beautiful marina filled with boats which makes for a great walk.  It has two piers on both sides of a channel which constantly has boats coming in and out from the marina.

And the best part is that we FINALLY got some good weather.

We got sun and warmth!  YAY!!

Our first night was gorgeous!  We went out to the beach as everyone else was leaving and walked down to the water’s edge.  We walked along the water over to the pier and then along the pier until “the voice” came over a loud speaker telling us it was time to leave.

The next day Kevin took his fishing pole and his new bait box and headed for the pier for a day of fishing.

He’s got the fishing bug!

Trisha

I hung back and waited for my friend Trisha to arrive for a day on the beach.  She got here just in time for lunch so we ate our sandwiches and headed for the beach.  We parked our beach chairs on the water’s edge and enjoyed the cool water on our feet and the warm sunshine.  A couple of times we got into the water to cool off but the water is still a little too cool for swimming.  At least for us anyway.  Some of the younger people seem to be ok with the temperature but not us 🙂

Kev came out to join us just in time to help us pack up and head back.  Perfect timing!!

He had a good day fishing where he caught a handful of perch, but mostly enjoyed being on the water and talking with other fishermen.

Plainwell

The next day we took a drive out to Plainwell, Michigan to look at a house for sale on Pine Lake.  We’re not really looking to buy but were told about this house on a lake that is hard to find property for sale so we decided to go take a look.  The house was cute but needed a lot of work.  The lake was super nice!

Campground Drama

When we got back to our campsite, we found ourselves in the middle of some campground drama.  Apparently, our canopy had escaped our campsite and rolled around the campground brushing up against a neighbor’s truck.  And our other neighbor felt compelled to take pictures and videos just in case there was damage and someone was so inclined to tell lies for whatever reason.

He rubbed Kevin the wrong way!

The other neighbor with the “maybe damaged truck” wasn’t home at the time so we had to wait for him to get home to determine how we were all to proceed.  So when he arrived Kevin went over to talk with him and after a quick inspection of the truck, it was determined that the damage was pre-existing and no further action was required.  Whew!!

These camper dudes are intense!!

Don’t mess with men and their trucks right!!?

REVIEW

So what did we like about Holland State Park:

wonderful beach, beautiful marina and piers all within walking distance;

the beach had man-made walkways going out to the water, towards the pier which made it so

   much easier to walk the beach;

fishing on the pier;

store with souveneirs, food and slushies on the beach

What we didn’t like:

no fire pits in campsite;

asphalt campground;

run away canopies 🙂

Rating

On a scale of 1 – 10 we rate Holland with a 7.  We liked it a lot just not as much as Ludington.

    It sounds like a beautiful campground with some nice amenities.
    I agree with Kevin. The guy who took the photos was there to cause trouble.
