One trip ends and another begins!
We headed for Bar Harbor, Maine this week with my son Spencer, his wife Erin and the grandkids Eva (age 9) and Liam (age 6). We each have our campers in tow and are looking forward to a week in Bar Harbor.
Spence and Erin lived in Yarmouth, Maine ten years ago when they were first engaged, when they got married and had their first baby, Evangeline Marie. They weren’t here long but were living here for some pretty important life events. For this reason, and the beauty of Maine, they have very fond memories and are happy to be back.
NEW HAMPSHIRE CAMPING
The trip from Michigan/Ohio is approximately 16 hours, way too long for the grands to be in a car, so we broke the trip up and spent a couple of nights in New Hampshire at a wonderful campsite on the river. The kids loved swimming and playing on the rocks and all enjoyed an evening around the campfire.
ARRIVING MAINE
The next day we arrived at our campsite in Maine on Flanders Bay. Our site is on the water and we have all enjoyed watching the tide come in and go out. The kids are exploring a lot on the beach and have found snails, jellyfish and crabs (some alive, some not).
STARLINK SATELLITES
Our first night, Eva looked up in the sky and saw a Starlink Satellite Train. We all thought we were seeing a UFO. Well, I did anyway.
As of May 31, there are almost 4,200 starlink satellites in orbit, of which 3,500 are operational. They used to be easier to see in the past, but have been made darker so as not to interfere with astronomical observations. They are only visible for a short while after being launched. What are they used for? Good question, they provide internet coverage on a global scale.
Not as exciting as a possible UFO sighting but pretty exciting when we first saw it. Unfortunately, we were not able to capture any pictures of it.
WHALE WATCHING
The next day, we set out for a boat cruise into the Atlantic Ocean to see some whales. We all took bonine/dramamine for seasickness and most of us slept through a good portion of the cruise. Kevin got to see a whale and the rest of us got to see some blowhole spray. We did see a few otters and lots of birds. But not too exciting 🙁 We are taking a nature cruise on Monday and hoping to see a little more on that trip.
LIAM’S BEST EVERS
Liam is having a great trip! He learned how to ride a 2-wheeler with no training wheels, got a new 4WD remote control truck, had the best pork ribs of his whole life (all 6 years) and lost his front tooth.
CAMPER CHALLENGES
Kevin and I have been experiencing electrical problems in our camper since we bought it. We keep thinking we have it fixed and then we plug in the toaster and BAM! Blow out again. So yesterday, Kevin and Spence spent MANY hours working on it and trying different solutions.
I called a repairman.
He came out, tapped a button 2 or 3 times and voila! FIXED! So we hope! We will see in the days to come.
MAINE SUNSET
Our first night in Maine was gorgeous weather with a beautiful sunset. Erin captured the sunset with some of Eva’s gymnastic moves. I think they are award-winning photos.
However, true to form our camping trip has turned into a rainfest. Kevin and I seem to bring the rain with us to every camping trip we go on. Kev thinks we should contact some Indian tribes in need of rain and charge them for our services as official rainmakers. He just might have something there, maybe we could get rich!
Let us know if anyone needs our services 🙂
Yay, fantastic another adventure! Love the pictures and commentary.
We are in dire need of rain here. We even have a red flag warning! So perhaps we can use your services! (Family discount please!) 😊. Safe travels and loads of fun wishes for all. 😘
I love this family time! What a fun adventure! I love Maine. Great pics too!
Yes, bring the rain here to west Michigan! It’s pretty crispy here ❤️
David and I went to Bar Harbor for our honeymoon. We love it. I hope you end up with more sunshine, it’s such a beautiful place.
Omg! Those sunset/Eva pics! Amazing!
Yes. You and Kevin should swing by GR. We haven’t had rain for over a month! The farmers will thank you😉
P.S. The photos of Eva are awesome!
