NIAGARA FALLS

With all the rain we were getting in Maine, and no end in sight, we decided to leave early and spend a day in Niagara Falls.  Half of us had seen the Falls before but not the kids and not Spence.  So for them it was a first, although, I think it was just as exciting for all of us as it was for the first-timers.

Niagara Falls is beautiful and exhilarating.

The smoke from the Canadian wildfires was there but not too bad yet.  We ran around trying to see the Falls from as many different vantage points as possible, but unfortunately, none of us had our passports so we couldn’t go to the Canadian side.

Kevin and I almost crossed the bridge into Canada ………… but it wasn’t intentional 🙂

Some interesting facts about Niagara Falls:

Niagara Falls were formed when melting glaciers formed the Great Lakes and Lake Erie ran down towards Lake Ontario.  These waters formed a river and flowed over a cliff creating the Falls.

The water that falls over Niagara takes 685,000 gallons from four of the Great Lakes (Erie, Huron, Michigan and Superior).

The water falls at 32 feet per second and is capable of producing over 4 million kilowatts of electricity which is shared by the U.S. and Canada.

Many people have tried to ride Niagara Falls in a barrel.  At least four have died, many were stopped before they were able to try and some have survived and lived to tell about it.  All those that have survived, went over the horseshoe falls on the Canadian side.

Our Next Camping Adventure

Kevin and I are getting ready to hit the road again on another camping adventure.  We will be hitting five of the State Parks on Lake Michigan over the next 2 – 3 weeks.

Below is our park reservation schedule:

June 11(3 PM) – June 15 (1 PM) – Grand Haven State Park

June 15(3 PM) – June 17(1 PM) – Hoffmaster State Park, Muskegon, MI

June 17(3 PM) – June 19(1 PM) – Ludington State Park

June 19(3 PM) – June 22(1 PM) – Holland State Park

June 22(3 PM) – June 26(1 PM) – Muskegon State Park

Our goal is to check out the state parks and see which ones we like best to come back and stay longer.

If anyone would like to come out and join us, even for a day……feel free.

We would love it!
